HI All,

I just heard that Johnny Carson died. I used to watch him all the time, they said he was emphezima. He was 79, it was a shame. I still watch from time to time with Jay Leno as host but it was never the same after Johnny left.

Did any of you watch him too?

I don´t know him, sorry, Linda. What did he do in TV? And what means emphezima? I couldn`t find a translation for it....

I only knew him by name, but never saw his show. And I'm not even sure if it was ever aired in Germany.

HI

He was the host of the Tonight Show, he retired several years ago and now Jay Leno hosts the show.

Emphesema is a lung disease caused by smoking. He was 79 years old. I just thought it was a shame.

Today there was a small article about his death in our regional newspaper. There was also a picture, but I haven`t seen him before. He must have been very famous and popular in the USA?

Oh, and thank you about your explanation about emphesema.

HI Templegirl,

yes Johnny Carson was a household name. He was on the Tonight Show for many years before he retired and Jay Leno took over

You're welcome about the emphesema explanation

Like our Thomas Gottschalk, I think! This guy is also very present in german TV and has his own regulary show. Do you know "Wetten, dass...?" It runs at one saturday per month on ZDF.

Johnny Carson has been the american Thomas Gottschalk, wasn`t he?

They used to compare Harald Schmitt's show with the Johnny Carson/Jay Leno Show. It must be pretty similiar.

Ah, my comparison was more about the popularity than about the similar shows... But I don`t know Johnny Carson and his show, so it isn`t easy to compare it with something in our german TV.

I can't really say much about those German shows since I never saw them.
