Description:
The mini-series is based on Madeleine L’Engles children book by the same name. A Wrinkle in Time is the winner of the 2003 Best Feature Film Award at the Toronto Children's Film Festival.
The quiet life of Meg Murry’s family is disrupted when Dr. Jack Murry, a world-renowned physicist who explored the principle of fifth-dimension time travel, disappears during one of his experiments. Six months later there is still no word of Jack and especially Meg, who adored her father, won’t believe that he willingly left his family. During a stormy night the mystical Misses Whatsit suddenly appears at her home and for the first time in months the family can hope to see Jack again. With the help of the Tesseract, Misses Whatsit takes Meg, her younger brother Charles-Wallace, and their friend Calvin to a fantastic journey through the universe to the planet Uriel where the kids have to pass several tests. Finally they learn that Jack is captured on the dark planet Camazotz.
After several adventures the kids can save their injured father, but at what price? Charles-Wallace,already under the influence of the bad force of the representive of It, who wants to control the universe, has to be left behind. Meg blames her father, but with the help of Aunt Beast and the three woman Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who and Mrs Which she finally understands that there was no other choice for her father. He didn't want her to be lost in Camazotz too. Since it is not Calvin’s task and Jack is too injured to go back to Camazotz it is left to Meg to save her brother.
Luckily we got to see the long version in Germany, which explained much more than the shorter US version. Though the DVD has some of the deleted scenes as extras it doesn't show everything with Chris in it and I still hope for a special edition sometime soon.
