in hollywood, kalifornien, USA geboren
david carradine ist der älteste sohn des legendären charakterdarstellers john carradine und abigail carradine.
er ist mittlerweile das familienoberhaupt eines schauspielerclans, zu dem auch seine halbbrüder keith, robert und michael bowen sowie seine töchter calitsta und kansas, wie auch die nichten ever carradine und martha plimpton zählen.
nach einer alles anderen als rosigen jugendzeit bewirbt carradine sich nach dem high-school-abschluss und dem college am shakespeare reportory theatre in san francisco.
er hat am san francisco state college musiktheorie und komposition studiert und gibt sein bühnendebüt in berkeley mit der truppe des theatre of the golden hind.
anschließend gehört david mehrere jahre den ensembles bekannter off-broadway-bühnen an. eine seiner aufregendsten arbeiten ist sein "othello", den er inszeniert und spielt.
nach zwei jahren beim militär unterzeichnet david einen vertrag mit universal und wird seit 1963 für diverse fernsehserien verpflichtet.
der auftritt in dem TV-remake des kinoklassikers "mein großer freund shane" machen ihn 1966 bekannt.
und nach ersten Erfolgen am broadway spielt er 1972 in seinem ersten großen streifen: "boxcar bertha",
der erste hollywood-film von Regie-legende martin scorsese. carradines partnerin in dem drama ist barbara hershey. es folgen eine ganze reihe kleinerer rollen. und dann:
david carradine konzentriert sich die nächsten drei jahre lang vor allem auf die serie, die ihn nicht nur berühmt, sondern auch beliebt macht: "kung fu".
als er aus der serie aussteigt, ist carradine ein superstar.
doch david carradine macht nicht nur auf schauspieler: auch als regisseur und komponist versucht er sich.
und das mit erfolg: sein film "americana" gewinnt 1981 in cannes den publikumspreis.
er führt bei diesem drama nicht nur regie und übernimmt die hauptrolle, er komponiert auch die filmmusik selbst.
andere top-filme, in denen er als schauspieler auftritt, sind der thriller "u-boot in not" (1978), ingmar bergmans drama "das schlangenei" (1977),
das fantasy-abenteuer "circle of iron" (1978) und die action-komödie "ein vogel auf dem drahtseil" (1990).
1986 und 1992 versucht er in "kung fu - der film" und "kung fu - im zeichen des drachen" an den erfolg der TV-serie anzuknüpfen.
für seine darstellung des woody guthrie in "dieses land ist mein land" (1976) bekommt carradine nicht nur eine golden globe-nominierung,
sondern auch den preis für bester schauspieler des "national board of film review".
als einer seiner besten filme gilt der western "the long riders" (1980), der die geschichte der jesse-james-bande erzählt.
hier ist david an der seite seiner beiden halbbrüdern keith und robert carradine zu sehen – sie spielen die drei younger-Brüder,
die mit ihren banküberfällen quasi den grundstein für die jesse-james-gang legten.
in mehr als 100 filmen hat er bisher mitgespielt. daneben tritt er nicht nur im TV-Serien wie "fackeln im sturm" "dr. quinn- eine ärtzin aus leidenschaft"auf, sondern wirkt auch in diversen theaterstücken, u.a. am broadway, mit.
zwischen 2000 und 2002 nimmt david carradine eine kleine kino-auszeit und ist verstärkt in TV-produktionen zu sehen. dann kehrt er mit quentin tarantinos "kill bill – volume 1" auf die kinoleinwand zurück:
er ist bill, der geliebte der braut, der nun ihre rache fürchten muss.
ungebrochen ist auch carradines liebe zur musik. bis heute hat er mehr als 60 lieder in verschiedenen musikalischen genres aufgenommen und auch in mehreren seiner filme gesungen.

mit donna lee brecht von 1960 bis ? aus dieser ehe stammt die erste tochter calista mirinda geb. 1962
von 1969 lebte er mit der mutter (barbara hershey)seines sohnes free geb. 1972 (dieser will tom genannt werden) zusammen. diese verbindung hielt bis 1975
1977 heiratet linda gilbert, sie ist die mutter seiner 2. tochter kansas anne, geb. 1978. diese wurde 1983 geschieden
1988 ehelichte david gail jensen diese beziehung hielt 9 jahre
am 20, februar 1998 heiratete DC coco d'este (aka. marina).die scheidung war 2001
jetzt lebt er mit seiner freundin annie bierman, deren vier kindern und drei hunden in los angeles

For three years DC concentrated mostly onto this series which made him not only famous but also popular: “Kung Fu”. After the series DC is a superstar.
But DC tried not only acting, but also director and composer with success: His film “Americana” won in Cannes the publicum award in 1981.
In this drama he is director, actor of the leading part and composer of the film music. Other top films with DC are the thriller “U-Boot in Not” (1978), Ingmar Bergman´s drama “Das Schlangenei” (1977), phantasy adventure “circle of iron” (1978), action comedy “Ein Vogel auf dem Drahtseil” (1990). 1986 and 1992 he tried with “Kung Fu – Der Film” and “Kung-Fu – The Legend Continues” to tie to the big success of the TV series.
For his representation of Woody Guthry in “Dies ist mein Land” DC became not only a golden globe nomination but also the award of “national board of film review” for the best actor.

Now he lives with his friend Annie Bierman, her four children and three dogs in Los Angeles. |
